Larisa V. Suturina was born in Chita region (USSR) on the 5th of June, 1961. In 1978 she was graduated from secondary school in Irkutsk and entered the Irkutsk State Medical Institute. After graduation she had an internship in Ob&Gyn at the Irkutsk city hospital ? 1, (Irkutsk, Russia) and after it worked in this hospital as a resident physician and then – as an obstetrician. In 1990 Larisa Suturina started to work as a Lecturer of the Department of Endocrinology in the Irkutsk State Medical Institute of Post-graduate Education. Since the 2002 to present time she works at the Scientific Center of Family Health and Human Reproduction Problems (Irkutsk, Russia), and her current position is: a Head of the department of reproductive health protection.
Larisa Suturina has the following scientific degrees: Candidate of Medical Science (1996, Thesis on the hormonal dysregulation and lipid metabolism dis-orders in women of reproductive age with hypothalamic obesity), Assistant Professor, the Endocrinology department (1999), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medicine (2002, Thesis on hypothalamic dysfunction with reproductive complications: diagnostics, treatment and prognosis), and Professor of obstetrics and gynecology (2005).
Professor Suturina is a member of many professional societies (AE&PCOS Society (since 2014), Endocrine Society (since 2014), ASRM (since 2014), ESC (since 2002), ISGE (since 2004), Russian Association on Human Reproduction (RAHR) (since 2007), Russian society on contraception (since 2007), Russian society on gynecological endocrinology (Board member, since 2017), Russian society on onco-gynecology (since 2012), Irkutsk Region Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Board Member since 2009).
Larisa Suturina serves as a member of “Global CARE (Contraception: Access, Resources, Education) Group” (since 2014) and as an advisory board member of «Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Epidemiology & Phenotype Study in Nsawam, Ghana (GHANA-PEP STUDY)» (since 2016). She is an Editorial Council Member of peer-reviewed journals («Reproductive Sciences», «Fertility&Reproduction», «Acta Biomedica Scientifica» - former «Bulletin of East-Siberian S?ientific Center», «Pediatric and Adolescent reproductive health», and a reviewer of «The European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care» (the official journal of ESC), since 2019; «Clinical Medicine Insights: Reproductive Health», since 2019.
The main scientific interests of professor Suturina are as follows: infertility, PCOS, hypothalamic disorders, oxidative stress, antioxidants, contraception, menopause, POF, obesity, adolescent’s health, education. She was a Principal Investigator in a cross-sectional study on the reproductive behavior of adolescents, the prevalence of infertility. Currently, she is a PI in the projects: "The main determinants and mechanisms of the formation of reproductive health disorders in various gender and age groups", «Stigma and discrimination of Siberian people living with HIV(PLHIV) by Ob&Gyn specialists and discrimination-reduction programming (grant ESC) and in the population-based study "PCOS prevalence and phenotype in Eastern Siberia (ESPEP)". As a principal investigator, Suturina L. participated in 12 clinical trials (phase II-IV) on different topics (uterine fibroids, contraception, CIN, AMB, endometriosis, benign breast disease, endometrial hyperplasia).
Since 2000 professor Larisa Suturina was a scientific supervisor of 30 PhD students. She has published more than 300 papers in scientific journals and serves as a speaker at international professional meetings.
