- Dr Yactayo was the Former Yellow Fever Focal Point at the Control of Epidemic Diseases (CED) at WHO Headquarters in Geneva.
- He joint WHO in 1995, initially working as emergency epidemiologist in different African and Asian countries. From 1999 to 2001, he worked as Regional Advisor in the Preparedness Emergency Programme in PAHO. From 2001 to 2006, he worked in the Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Programme. From 2007 up to now, he has been working in the Yellow Fever (YF) Initiative funded by the GAVI Alliance, including the management of emergencies.
- His working experience in WHO is mainly oriented towards alert and response to epidemic-prone diseases such as diarrheal diseases, cholera, shigellosis and leishmaniasis.
- Before working at WHO, Dr Yactayo worked at Médecins Sans Frontières and others NGOs as medical doctor in refugee camps or in centres for severe malnourished children. Previous to this experience he worked seven years as a specialist in liver diseases and as gastroenterologist.
- Dr Yactayo is a medical doctor specialized in Public Health. He has a PhD in science history.
